My Journaling Story

I used to say journaling wasn’t my thing because I prefer to talk out loud about whatever is bothering me, usually with a close friend and thats how I process best. That’s still true but I’ve been journaling now for about a year and in the last 4 months I realized that its important to first filter your own thoughts and have that inner monologue before you share with your village. Having a sounding board is great and we can’t do life alone but being mindful of those around us and that they have their own lives and experiences that can color their advice is necessary.

So how did I get into journaling?

One of my mentees introduced me to my yoga studio Open Door Yoga last summer and since I’ve been attending almost every week, mindfulness and journaling have become an integral part of my wellness routine. I may not be consistent every day but I try to journal every morning and I really enjoy periodically looking back at past entries and seeing my growth.

For Christmas too one of my friends gifted me Simple Abundance: 365 Days to a Balanced and Joyful Life by Sarah Ban Breathnach and I like to start my journaling session with reading the daily passage and then picking up a pretty notebook with lined paper. If free writing your prompts isn’t your thing, check out Intelligent Change’s Five Minute Journal, I have one too and its a great tool for a quick brain dump!

I also love their Mindful Affirmations deck, which I got as a birthday gift from my yoga studio. I like to place a new one on my dresser every Monday morning for new, good vibes for a new week!

In the last few weeks I’ve shared more of my wellness journey with my professional network on LinkedIn and how it has helped shape me into a better lawyer and friend so I thought why not share with you my journal prompts.

Some of these I’ve cultivated on my own, others I’ve borrowed from journal clubs and wellness communities I’m a part of. I highly recommend joining one for accountability!

  • My Journal Prompts
    • What am I grateful for today?
    • What is my intention for the day?
    • What am I craving today/how can I nourish myself today?
    • What can I release today that is no longer serving me?
    • What can I improve on today?
    • I am attracting more _____ into my life.
    • What is something that is abundant in my life right now?
    • How can I fill my cup today?
    • What can I do today for dream me?
    • 3 things I want to feel today:
    • What am I looking forward to?
    • Goals for the week/day:
    • What am I manifesting?
    • My affirmations:
    • Highlight of the day (I do this one the next morning)

You don’t need to do all of these like I do, sometimes I might feel called to change it up or skip one or some days I write four pages. Its a choose your own adventure tool to a more mindful, easeful life.

And yes I even bring screenshots of Simple Abundance and my journal with me on trips. I’m on my second notebook too!

In the last year I have seen and felt myself become softer, kinder, more at peace and flying at a higher frequency because of journaling and yoga and that’s my wish for all of you! Be sure to follow me on IG and Tik Tok for more of my wellness journey too, like pilates, my latest challenge.
